Artist Book

This Moleskine Sketchbook is a real pleasure to work with. Its pigmented paper offers an ideal base for all instruments such as pens, pencils, charcoal, fountain pens, and paints. It comes with a rear pocket and a black elastic band to keep everything closed and in place. It has 52 spreads, 104 pages; dimensions 13 x 21 cm. Paper weight is 120gsm.

The above Artist Book Edition 1, was completed in April 2023. It started off as a sketchbook practice and has become my current art practice. This Artist Book is a collection of mostly double spreads, where there are no limits; as well as artwork, the spreads include notes on art history, art & design movements, autobiographical imagery (like the spread above called Home) and works that include recycled newspaper text (see below).

The Artist Book has become a place of experimentation, a space to  discover new themes, e.g., environmental art, illustration, quirky abstract art, collage, and much more. The Artist Book is a work of art on its own and includes spreads that depict closely related ideas that are unique, yet connected by way of theme and colour scheme.

The combination of Artist Book spreads becomes a portable exhibition and the book itself a portable sculpture. The Artist Book represents intimacy, a peace and tranquility, a permanent reality whereby access to its contents is controlled by the artist. This offers a more intimate communication with the viewer than a conventional art object.

Each time the Artist Book is shared with viewers, the visual journeys and interactions generate a range of artistic and interpersonal conversation involving different impressions and interpretations every time.
